"Which is worse? The wolf who cries before eating the lamb or the wolf who does not."— Leo Tolstoy

From the "When the Going Gets Weird, the Weird Turn Pro" Department:

The day after this story appeared in the Arizona Republic a local attorney known to have kicked Joe Arpaio in the assets ran into the elderly lawman at a downtown watering hole favored by political types. The attorney observed that after pleasantries were exchanged Sherrif Joe remarked about "what a strange county we live in." Kind of like the Grinch complaining that "Christmas wasn't fun this year because there were no presents."

  1. The reason nonfiction is necessary is that no novelist could invent Arpaio's fiefdom and be taken seriously.
