This article indicates that all of the Defendants were from the ethnic Uzbek minority, in which case this may be more of an example of the Rule of Wolves than the Rule of Law. The news coming out of the trials resulting from the ethnic violence in Osh earlier this year has been appalling, with the local Kyrgyz authorities doing little to stop repeated attacks against Uzbek defendants, their family members and even their public defenders. When I read a few more stories about Kyrgyz being imprisoned for violence against Uzbeks, then I'll be impressed. This post is going to get me into bolshoi trouble with the wife.
