Arvel Bird's Flying Fiddle

Every now and then you stumble upon exceptional music when you least expect it. This past weekend Raila and I went to a Native American Fair at the Pueblo Grande Museum. I expected the usual Native American flute music, hoop dancers, etc. etc. This is all great music and dance but it is de rigeur for these festivals. Instead, i was introduced to Arvel Bird, one of the best Tex Mex/blue grass/celtic fiddle players I have ever seen perform. His performance was an animated combination of poetry, dance, melodic Native American flute and kick ass fiddle playing. He would be right at home playing with Vassar Clement, David Grisman, Peter Rowan and Jerry Garcia in Old and in the Way. Add Flaco Jiminez's squeeze box to the group and I would be in Native American/Tex Mex/Blue Grass music heaven.
