Can Rick Santorum go all the way? My view: yes. Here's two reasons why.

1) Karma's a Bitch.

Both Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry HATE Romney and have unsheathed the long knives for some close combat carving They will do everything they can to damage him in New Hampshire and South Carolina.

2) Win Pennsylvania Win the World.

Santorum was elected to the House of Representatives by beating a seven term incumbent Democrat in a heavily democratic district. In his second election the district was redrawn to give the democrats a 3-1 edge and Santorum still won with 61% of the vote. He then served two terms in the U.S. Senate losing in 2006 to Bob Casey, Jr. a very popular pro-life legacy candidate. Robert Casey Sr., the former pro-life Governor of PA, was not allowed to speak at the 1992 Democratic National Convention

The insulated Chicago Democratic operatives in the White House will underestimate Santorum, believing that he is just another extreme right-wing tea party social conservative who will alienate voters. I lived for a year in Philadelphia while Santorum was in the Senate and I can tell you that ethnic (Irish and Italian) blue collar democrats - Reagan Democrats - love this guy. More than once I walked into a shop in South Philly and saw Santorum's picture on the wall. The only reason he lost in 2006 was because he was running against Robert Casey's son.

James Carville once described Pennsylvania as another Alabama sandwiched by Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The bottom line is that any politician that can win a Pennsylvania state-wide race can win a national race.
